Care and Maintanance

To keep your Masaya Co pieces in tip-top shape, these require some tender love & care from time to time. Follow our recommendations below based on your product.

Care for your wooden items

The care of wood furniture varies according to the wood type, finish, and function of the piece. Only teak with certain finishes is intended for outdoor use. Mahogany and Walnut are intended for indoor use only.

Outdoor Furniture:

Teak outdoor furniture that is exposed to the elements will develop a weathered grey patina.  When possible, cover the furniture with waterproof and weatherproof furniture covers to further protect the pieces. Periodic cleaning is also recommended, depending on the furniture’s exposure to the sun and the outside elements.

Indoor Furniture:

To keep your furniture clean and prevent any dust buildup, clean with a dry, soft cloth. If spills happen, wipe the liquid off immediately with a soft, dry cloth. If water is left standing, white spots may occur. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasives on any finish.

Care based on your materials

Woven manila, Sunbrella, or leather items require different types of care. Follow the guide below to keep your furniture looking great.

Woven items

Woven manila furniture is intended for indoor use or outdoor covered areas.  If outside, avoid placing it under direct sunlight over long periods of time to prevent fading.

To remove loose particles, pet hair, or dust from the manila, use a vacuum with an upholstery or crevice tool attachment. Avoid using a brush attachment, as this could cause abrasion.

Our woven manila furniture should not be saturated with cleaning solvents or scrubbed excessively. It is also not recommended to apply scented fabric fresheners, neutralizers, or fabric protectors.

To remove dirt stains, dilute a light detergent in water and apply to the affected area in circular motions, using your fingertips.  Then remove all soap residue with water.  Air dry (make sure manila is completely dry before placing inside the home).

Sunbrella Fabrics and Straps

Sunbrella Strap and Sunbrella Fabric is a great option for outdoor use. Sunbrella is highly durable, weather-resistant, fade-resistant, and extremely easy to care for. The best way to protect the Sunbrella is by wiping off any dirt before it sets and wiping up any spills before the fabric stains.

To clean Sunbrella, simply brush off any loose dirt and spray on a cleaning solution of water and mild soap, using a soft bristle brush to clean. Allow the cleaning solution to soak into the fabric before rinsing thoroughly, making sure all soap residue is removed.  Air dry.

Leather items

Leather is a natural product and each piece will reflect its own individuality. Variations in tone and shade are to be expected, as well as eventual scratches and wrinkles.

To clean, use a dry microfiber cloth periodically to prevent or clean up the accumulation of dust. If you accidentally spill liquids or your furniture becomes wet, wipe it off with a dry cloth or sponge immediately. Make sure to not rub the leather, as this will only spread the liquid. If necessary, moisten the cloth and gently wipe up the rest of the stain.  Wipe it dry.

Do not use harsh cleaners or solvents, as they can abrade the finish or top coat of the leather. For additional leather care, please contact a leather cleaning professional.
